Know all about Grih Pravesha Puja: A Divine beginning can result into a great life!!

Home in other words is called “manushyalaya” which means a human temple. The Indian society is very much particular about their dwelling place and they consider it as pious place like that of a temple. Unlike in other culture, the homes in India are not just the place where one gets shelter rather a divine place. And, every house owner is very particular be it lying of the foundation stone or the Grih Pravesha Puja after the house has been completely built.

Hindus believe that it is very important to do the house warming ceremony before entering the home after is built. The Mantras and the methods of the Grih Pravesha Puja have generally been taken from famous sculpture, the Matsya Purana, which was written around 7000 years back. The Griha Pravesha or the house warming ritual in the Hindu culture is done on a very pious node.

Importance of Owing a House

It’s a great milestone in our life to own a house! Also, the Vastu tells that, a house should necessarily be treated like many other living beings on the earth. It also teaches that like other living being, it has the power to affect the members living in the home both in the negative and positive ways. The Hindu religion believes that empty houses have all the possibility of having around various negative forces and so it is important to do the Puja rituals with all the perfection. And, this whole process of freeing the home from all the negative forces that involves a series of rituals is called as “Griha Pravesha”.

History of Grih Pravesh Puja

The practice of doing puja before entering your new home is an old process and has been in existence from the Vedic times. The main motive behind performing this Puja is pleasing Gods and Goddesses and inviting them in your for seeking out their pious blessings. This Puja also ensures the well being of the family and those in the family. Also, by the means of doing this Puja, we show our gratitude to Gods and Goddesses for blessing with a dwelling place. Astonishingly, there are also various types of Griha Pravesha Puja that can be performed.

Types of Griha Pravesha

1. Apoorva
The Griha Pravesha Puja that is conducted when we make entry into a newly constructed house for the first time is called as Apoorva.

2. Sapoorva
The Griha Pravesha Puja is done when we make entry into the home after returning from abroad or from anywhere else, is called as Sapoorva.

3. Dwandwah
Dwandwah is the form of Griha Pravesha Puja which is done when we make entry into the home after any kind of renovation for the damage caused due to Earthquake or flood or fire or anything alike.

Griha Pravesha Muhurat

Human’s lives are actually governed by a number of rules and regulations of the space and the time. After the construction process of a house is completed, it is quite important to decide about the right date and timings for conducting the Griha Pravesha Puja.

Right timings for all types of Griha Pravesha Puja

Apporva: For this type of housewarming Puja it is important to adhere to the preferred time.

Sapoorva and Dwandwah: For both of this Griha Pravesha Puja the Panchang’s purity need to be given a lot of considerations.

For newly constructed houses

The initial entry in the house should be done when the Sun is in its Uttarayan position.

For a Renovated House

First entry should be arranged only when Shukra (Venus) or Guru (Jupiter) is about to set.
